The newly reopened Metropole Bratislava is hosting its very first quiz night — and we’re going to make it a big one.
And this one is for a very good cause.
I’m hosting a fundraising quiz in aid of UNRWA’s Gaza relief efforts. I did a similar fundraiser last year, where we raised over €700 and had more than 100 people — so this year, I’d love to beat both records.
THE QUIZ
Expect a hell of a lot of fun, plenty of ridiculous questions, some serious competition and, hopefully, a few arguments with your teammates. You can expect a mix of general knowledge and some unexpected trivia.

We’re asking for €5 per person, with all money going to UNRWA’s Gaza relief effort.
Please, please, please bring cash on the night. I is not a bank.

ABOUT THE HOST
The quiz will be hosted by Shane Callaghan, me. Hello. An Irish comedian who has lived in Bratislava for the past five years.
Shane is the co-host of Foreigners in Bratislava, a podcast from Ireland focusing on the experiences and stories of people living abroad. He also travels around Europe performing stand-up comedy and regularly hosts pub quizzes, including a weekly quiz in Vienna that attracts large crowds.
THE FUNDRAISER
UNRWA — the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East — was established by the UN General Assembly in 1949. Its purpose is to provide assistance and essential services to Palestine refugees, and it operates in Gaza, the West Bank including East Jerusalem, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
For more than 75 years, UNRWA has provided services including education, healthcare, social services, protection and emergency humanitarian assistance. It is different from many charities because it has a large, permanent presence in the communities it serves and employs thousands of local staff.
In Gaza, UNRWA’s work has become overwhelmingly focused on emergency humanitarian relief. Its teams provide or support access to food, clean water, shelter, healthcare, cash assistance, sanitation and essential non-food items, while also providing protection and psychological support to people affected by the conflict.
This fundraiser will specifically support UNRWA’s Gaza Emergency Appeal. According to UNRWA, donations to this appeal help provide displaced families with essentials such as water, shelter, healthcare and other emergency assistance.
The aim is simple: have a great night, raise as much money as possible, and turn a few hours of quizzing into practical humanitarian help for people in Gaza.
Last year we raised more than €700. This year, we’re hoping to beat that — and hopefully have more than 100 people doing it with us.
